We spend a lot of time analysing our clients’ Google Analytics accounts. We have started to observe with increasing regularity referral traffic to our clients’ sites from www.semalt.com See below a screenshot of an actual analytics referral traffic report.
After investigating, we see that these are not human visitors originating from that site but rather a bot that this site is sending to our clients’ sites (and all the other sites on the Net) to extract info. that it in turn sells to its subscribers. We are quite annoyed by this as every visit from the bot bounces at 100% thereby driving up your bounce rate. As it is widely believed that a high bounce rate hurts organic ranks, site owners must prevent this bot from crawling their websites. Preventing the bot is actually very simple.
